Best Beaches Guide - PV, Mexico by Andy Turner

Mexico has a multitude of stunning beaches and Puerto Vallarta is one the top beach destinations. With over 40 different, individual beaches spanning 42km (26 miles), visitors can enjoy everything from snorkelling, jet skiing, scuba diving, windsurfing, and fishing.

Playa de los Muertos
Located in Old Town Puerto Vallarta, Playa de los Muertos is by far the most popular beach location in the area. You can enjoy everything from shopping, to water sports, to great local cuisine. Other activities include beach volleyball, banana boat rides and parasailing. It is also a favourite area with locals too.

Many of the best hotels are located in the area. And if you are lucky enough to be staying in one, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the sunset.

Northern Puerto Vallarta Beaches
The northern Puerto Vallarta beaches are ideal for those who prefer quieter beaches. Conditions around this area offer both surfing and windsurfing opportunities. One of the more popular northern beaches is Playa de Oro.

Beautiful white sands with occasional small rocky areas. Being a popular location for water sports, you can also enjoy activities ranging from jet skiing to windsurfing.

Two more of Puerto Vallarta's more popular northern beaches are Los Venaderos and Destiladera, which are ideal for snorkelling. Bird enthusiasts can rent boats on both these beaches to go to The Las Marietas Islands, located just offshore. These islands are designated bird sanctuaries.

Southern Puerto Vallarta Beaches
Southern Puerto Vallarta Beaches offer numerous small coves and hidden beaches. Ideal for couples who can enjoy long strolls and beautiful sunsets.

The last Puerto Vallarta beach that can be reached by road is Boca de Tomatlan. This is a great beach for swimming. You can also rent pangas to discover the even more remote beaches of Yepala, Las Animas or Quimixto.

For an unforgettable Mexican beach vacation that offers something for everyone, Puerto Vallarta is hard to beat.
